Tunisia Busts Organ Trafficking Ring: Ministry

TUNIS, Oct 29 (NNN-TAP) – Tunisian authorities have dismantled an international human organ trafficking network, the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announced, yesterday.

The network was discovered after the Tunisian National Unit for Terrorist and Organised Crime Research, found “suspicious information” on social media, about the sale of human organs, the ministry said in a statement.

Security units arrested three individuals, who confessed to their activities within the network, and to their efforts to attract Tunisians wishing to sell their organs. The suspects admitted to exploiting social networking sites and intermediaries inside and outside the country, to send these people abroad for medical examinations.

Once the examinations were complete, the suspects would negotiate the price of the organ with potential buyers, the statement said.

The Interior Ministry did not provide further details about the network.– NNN-TAP
