Indonesian Court Sentenced Eight  To Death For Drug Smuggling

JAKARTA, Oct 28 (NNN-ANTARA) – The Serang District Court in Indonesia, yesterday, sentenced eight to death, for smuggling 319 kg of crystal methamphetamine.

Chief of the panel of judges, Uli Purnama, said, all the evidence concluded they were guilty of violating the Narcotics Law.

The National Narcotics Agency arrested the eight people, all Iranian citizens, on Feb 23, when they were smuggling the drugs using a fishing vessel, sailing in the Indian Ocean, off the Java Island.

Police fired warning shots when the suspects tried to escape. Some 309 bags containing 319 kg of crystal methamphetamine were seized under the vessel’s fuel tank.– NNN-ANTARA
