FILE - Protestor Salwan Momika outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm, Thursday, July 20, 2023. Sweden has reportedly withdrawn the residence permit of an Iraqi man who staged a series of public desecrations of the Quran this year but has stayed his deportation, saying his life would be in danger if he were returned to Iraq. Sweden’s Migration Agency made the decision this week after determining that Salwan Momika had provided false information in his application for asylum, it was reported Thursday, Oct. 26. STOCKHOLM, Oct 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Swedish Migration Agency decided to deport the Iraqi man who burned copies of the Koran at protests in the capital Stockholm recently.

The agency announced the decision, but said it had granted a temporary residence permit until April next year due to “complications in implementing the decision.”

Currently, the Swedish Migration Agency has not made any official comments.

Responding to SVT station on the same day, the subject in the above case, named Salwan Momika, declared that he would not leave Sweden and said he would appeal.

Recently, there have been a number of protests in Sweden when there were incidents of vandalism or burning of copies of the Koran, causing outrage in the Muslim community .

The Swedish government recently announced that the country would consider changing the Public Order Act to give police the power to prevent protests that threaten security. — NNN-AGENCIES
