President of Mexico receives immunization with Cuban vaccine Abdala

HAVANA, Oct 26 (NNN-ACN) — Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, President of Mexico, boosted his immunization against COVID-19 with a dose of the Cuban vaccine Abdala.

During Tuesday’s morning press conference at the National Palace, the president received the vaccine on the occasion of the start of the immunization campaign that began last Oct 16 before the winter season.

In May, the New Molecules Committee (CMN) of Mexico’s Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) issued a favorable opinion for the use of Abdala.

Lopez Obrador recalled this quality test by Cofepris, an entity he described as the best in the country, because it is in the hands of very efficient and honest people, great professionals and very human.

Abdala, the first anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccine developed and produced in Latin America and the Caribbean, was designed and produced by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Havana.

This immunogen is made up of a protein subunit of the virus obtained by recombinant engineering in cells of the yeast Pichia pastoris. — NNN-ACN
