Death Toll Rises To 15 In Bangladesh Train Collision

DHAKA, Oct 24 (NNN-BSS) – At least 15 people were killed after two trains collided, in Bangladesh’s Kishoreganj district, some 117 km north-east of Dhaka, yesterday, the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Md Mostak Sarker, said.

The official said, a container train, heading towards seaport city Chattogram, collided with Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express, at around 3:30 p.m. local time yesterday.

“Fifteen bodies have so far been retrieved from the wreckage,” he said, adding that, some 100 people have been injured, after several carriages of the Egarosindhur Express overturned in the crash, fearing the death toll may rise significantly.

Most of the rescued passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals, said the official.

Hundreds of volunteers and locals joined fire servicemen, who had been working frantically to rescue people believed to be trapped under the wreckage.– NNN-BSS
