Bolivia Drilled 590 Wells for Drinking Water Supply

LA PAZ, May 9 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — A total of 590 wells were drilled in Bolivia from 2016 to 2018, an investment of more than 10 million dollars from the Nuestro Pozo (Our Well) program to guarantee drinking water supply for food production.

The coordinator of the program, Venancio Tazola, reported this Wednesday that they installed in that period 590 systems with underground source for the benefit of 167,000 inhabitants of communities in eight departments, except Pando, with the distribution of 10,300 cubic meters of water per hour.

He recalled that President Evo Morales decided to implement in the second half of 2016 the initiative, in force until 2021, to mitigate the effects of drought, ensure food security and prioritize water for livestock and micro irrigation.

According to the President, the project benefits the communities where for more than 20 years they receive the liquid through pipes, but did not have drinking water.

Tazola said that to date they have received 1,500 applications, which are assessed by technical personnel, taking into account that to drill a well are necessary logistical and topographical studies of each of the regions with a duration up to six months. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
