Peru reelected to UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND)

LIMA, May 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has reelected Peru as a member of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) for the 2020-2023 period.

The Inca country’s re-election represents a clear recognition for the commitment and achievements of the Peruvian Government in the execution of the 2017-2021 National Policy to Fight Drugs.

This plan includes demand reduction, supply control, the alternative comprehensive and sustainable development, plus the common and differentiated responsibility in the international cooperation against drugs.

The Commission on Narcotic Drugs was established by the Economic and Social Council Resolution 9(I) in 1946 to assist the ECOSOC in supervising the application of the international drug control treaties.

The CND reviews and analyzes the global drug situation, considering the interrelated issues of prevention of drug abuse, rehabilitation of drug users, and supply and trafficking in illicit drugs. — NNN-ANDINA
