CAMAGUEY (Cuba), Oct 18 (NNN-ACN) — China opened an International Institute for Research on Artificial Intelligence, a project designed since 2019 by the University for International Studies in the province of Hebei and several Cuban higher education centers.
The initiative aims at boosting social development in areas such as biotechnology and biomedicine, renewable energy, quality of life, smart cities, industry 4.0 and telecommunications.
Institute president Yaile Caballero said that the project expands collaboration between Cuba and China to contribute to innovation and knowledge towards a better future.
Caballer, who is also director for International Relations at Cuba’s Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University of Camaguey told ACN that computer sciences and artificial intelligence in particular constitute a challenge to the scientific communities of Cuba and China.
Cubans and Chinese experts will use the institute’s platform to develop academic skills, talents, scientific research and artificial intelligence applications, as well as other technology of the 21st century.
The research team will include five academicians and nine foreign scientists, along 10 Chinese university professors, as well as high-level industry researchers and developers.
The new facility, which is in tune with the needs of modernization, internationalization and construction of a new area in Xiong ‘an and the coordinated development of Beijing Tianjin-Hebei, digital economy and other emerging strategic industries, signed a cooperation accord in the field of artificial intelligence with 17 renowned international institutions.
The Institute is also joined by three academicians and nine scientists winners of international prizes including the Nobel Prize, while it promotes the twinning of the city of Zhijiazhuang with localities in Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
The University for International Studies in Hebei maintain cooperation with the Cuban universities of Camaguey, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Avila and Havana. — NNN-ACN
