BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 17 (NNN-ANN) – With 669 deaths from cardiovascular diseases in Brunei last year, compared to 416 in 2021, cardiovascular diseases have become the second leading cause of death in the country, a medical expert, said.
Md Nadzir Juanda, president of Cardiac Society Brunei Darussalam, made the remarks at the society’s 10th annual scientific meeting.
Cardiovascular diseases continue to be the leading cause of death globally, and Brunei is no exception, the expert was quoted as saying, by the local daily Borneo Bulletin in a report yesterday.
“It is through conferences and meetings such as this, that we can update ourselves with the latest development in cardiology, with regards to prevention and treatment of cardiac-related conditions, and reduce mortality, and make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our community,” he said.
Nearly 600 doctors, nurses, health professionals and students participated in this year’s event.– NNN-ANN
