Man Found Dead Near Bear In Central Japan

TOKYO, Oct 15 (NNN-NHK) – A man was found dead with head and other injuries yesterday, in the forested mountainous area in central Japan’s Nagano prefecture, likely mauled by a bear, local police said.

The man was believed to have been attacked the previous day, when he went to check on a boar trap he had set. A bear, 1.3-metre-tall adult female, was caught in the boar trap that was near the body, police said.

Police said they received an emergency call before 6.00 p.m. on Friday that an acquaintance, who went to check up on the boar trap, had not returned home.

Police and hunting club members mounted a night search but called it off after spotting a lumbering shape, apparently a bear, in the vicinity of the trap.

The search party, after resuming the search around 6.00 a.m. yesterday, quickly came across the man, who was confirmed dead on the spot, and killed the trapped bear.– NNN-NHK
