TOKYO, Oct 14 (NNN-NHK) – The number of foreign residents in Japan has reached a record high of over 3.2 million, government data showed, yesterday.
There were around 3,224,000 foreign residents living in the country, as of the end of June, which grew by 149,000, during the first half of this year, according to the Immigration Services Agency.
By status of residence, around 358,000 foreigners were technical interns, up by 33,000 from six months earlier, while the number of people with specified skilled worker status rose by 42,000 to about 173,000.
Meanwhile, roughly 79,000 foreign nationals in Japan had overstayed their visas as of July 1, up by 8,600 from six months earlier.
Noting that there are many overstays with an increasing number of foreigners coming to Japan, since the easing of COVID-19 border measures, officials said that, they will take appropriate immigration control measures.– NNN-NHK
