Iran Keen To Protect Calm, Security In Lebanon: FM

BEIRUT/TEHRAN, Oct 14 (NNN-NNA/IRNA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, yesterday, stressed Iran’s keenness to protect calm and security in Lebanon, calling leaders in the region for a meeting to discuss the situation in Gaza and Lebanon.

The Iranian diplomat made the remarks during a press conference in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib.

The Iranian minister also warned that, Israel’s military operation in Gaza could “ignite a bigger war in the region,” calling for a just and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian people.

“It is possible to imagine any scenario, if the situation in Gaza continues at this pace,” said Amir-Abdollahian.

For his part, Bou Habib expressed Lebanon’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, urging an end to the ongoing siege on Gaza.

Bou Habib also echoed the Iranian official’s warning, saying that, continuing the escalation in Gaza would “drag the entire region to war.”

Amir-Abdollahian met earlier, Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, who stressed “the necessity of exerting diplomatic efforts” to stop the conflict and protect Lebanon.

Amir-Abdollahian also met with Hezbollah Leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, to discuss the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon.– NNN-NNA/IRNA
