Former Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir
THE HAGUE, May 9 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The International Criminal Court has said that Jordan will not be referred to the UN Security Council for failing to arrest the former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on war crimes charges.
The split decision by the five judge panel reverses a previous decision by the ICC.
But the court did uphold a reprimand of Jordan for not arresting Bashir in 2017 when he attended an Arab League Summit in Amman, despite there being two international warrants for his arrest.
Omar al-Bashir, who was toppled last month by mass protests after 30 years in power, has travelled to a number of countries over the past decade without being arrested. — NNN-AGENCIES
