Cambodia Reported Third Bird Flu Death This Year

PHNOM PENH, Oct 10 (NNN-AKP) – A two-year-old girl from south-eastern Cambodia’s Prey Veng province, has died of H5N1 human avian influenza, the third death from the virus recorded in the country, so far this year, the Ministry of Health said yesterday.

The toddler tested positive for H5N1 bird flu yesterday, the ministry said in a news release, without specifying her time of death.

The ministry said, Tamiflu (oseltamivir), an antiviral drug to prevent the bird flu from spreading, was distributed to people who had direct contact with the girl.

H5N1 influenza is a flu that normally spreads between sick poultry, but it can sometimes spread from poultry to humans, according to the World Health Organisation.– NNN-AKP
