DHAKA, Oct 9 (NNN-BSS) – The Bangladeshi government has approved the import of another 50 million eggs, amid a huge public outcry, due to skyrocketing prices of eggs in the country.
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Commerce, gave approval to five firms to import the eggs. With the latest decision of the ministry announced yesterday, a total of 15 companies so far got approval to bring in 150 million eggs from abroad.
In recent days, Bangladeshis reportedly cut short consumption of eggs as prices soared to 160-170 taka a dozen, over the last week in the capital Dhaka, and elsewhere in the country.
Bangladesh has a daily demand for 40 million eggs, according to the ministry’s estimate. (1 U.S. dollar equals about 110 taka)– NNN-BSS
