LIMA, Oct 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Ministry of Interior (Mininter), through the Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (Corah), and the National Police’s Antidrug Department have eradicated 16,391.53 hectares of illegal coca crops so far this year.
According to the government agency, the operations were carried out in the regions of Ucayali, Pasco, Huanuco, San Martin and Loreto.
It should be pointed out that the annual goal for coca crop eradication in 2023 is 25,000 hectares.
The eradication of illegal coca crops was carried out through operations in 8,581 plots located in the operational axes of Constitucion (Huanuco region) and Caballococha (Loreto region).
The reduction of this coca growing area prevented the production of 153 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, which were going to be commercialized by criminal organizations.
In addition, eight clandestine rustic laboratories, where drugs are manufactured using illegal coca crops, were identified and destroyed as part of the eradication efforts.
These operations are conducted according to the “Annual Plan for Reduction of Illegal Coca Growing Area: Promoting Environmental and Social Sustainability in Peru 2023,” which was approved by the Ministry of Interior.
