BRUSSELS (Belgium), Oct 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peru, along with other 26 countries, signed a declaration in which they commit to exchange intelligence information, conduct joint operations involving financial investigations, and strengthen control actions with regard to illicit drug trafficking.
The signing took place within the framework of the meeting between the Council of EU Interior Ministers and the Latin American Committee on Internal Security (CLASI), held in Belgium.
The aim of this commitment is to establish a framework of permanent cooperation to combat drug trafficking and organized crime.
At the meeting, Peru was represented by Deputy Domestic Order Minister Miguel Nuñez.
He pointed out that the declaration signed by 27 countries will strengthen bi-regional relations and the implementation of coordinated efforts to combat transnational crime effectively.
The signatories of this document expressed their willingness to establish a schedule of meetings and a permanent channel of communication to face both scourges.
In addition to Peru, other 13 (Latin American) countries inked the above-mentioned declaration, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, and Uruguay.
Within this context, Nuñez held meetings with authorities such as Dutch Justice Minister Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius, who expressed her desire to have a Peruvian representative present during the signing of the Ljubljana – The Hague Convention.
Said document will enable the cooperation in the investigation and prosecution of crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and others.
Moreover, the Peruvian deputy minister met with Jonathan RIGGS, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Security of Panama, with whom he discussed about expediting the exchange of information on arms trafficking, through the signing of an agreement for this purpose. — NNN-ANDINA
