TUMBES (Peru), Oct 7 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte urged regional and local governments to work in an effective and coordinated manner in prevention efforts against the El Niño phenomenon, which —she said— must be implemented very swiftly.

During a trip made to northern Tumbes region to supervise the progress in prevention works and the delivery of machinery allocated for those tasks, Boluarte also asked that authorities use good judgment in said task.

This work “is preventive, not reactive,” the Head of State said.

Remarks were made during a ceremony held at the Army’s Ninth Armored Brigade site. She supervised the delivery of 34 machines for flood- and rain-related prevention works in that zone.

We want to speed up (efforts) so that El Niño phenomenon does not catch us halfway; we must run,” Boluarte added.

The top official announced that next week she will return to the country’s northern area to oversee the use of the machinery delivered by the Executive Branch, through the Defense Ministry, to regional authorities.

Within this framework, Boluarte said she will visit Lambayeque and Ancash region.

The Head of State reminded citizens that, according to the public budget bill for 2024, regional and local governments will rely on greater resources than before.

Thus, what they must do in the face of El Niño phenomenon is “work, work, and work” in favor of the population, the President pointed out.

“I urge you to work on that responsibility, and also in the frontal fight against corruption,” she indicated.

Furthermore, the top official said that applying the zero-corruption principle in public administration would allow for reducing gaps in Peru.

The president also said the budget management report by the Economy-Finance Ministry reveals that “there is still a low execution (of resources) by local governments. So, from the Executive Branch “we are helping them” to enhance their projects. — NNN-ANDINA
