MOGADISHU, Oct 6 (NNN-ALLAFRICA) — The Somali government has released the names of Al-Shabaab leaders who were killed and wounded in fighting in Galmudug and HirShabelle, and dozens escaped from the military operations.
The government announced that the operations against Al-Shabaab have killed 1,650 members and injured more than 550 others. The statement also said that in the past two months, the Al-Shabaab group was severely defeated and 19 leaders have been killed.
At least two Al-Shabaab logisticians were reportedly killed on Oct 3, when a bomb they were setting up exploded on them in Kenya’s Amuma area, Garissa county.
Police said the two were placing the Improvised explosive device on the main supply route used by security agencies and other motorists when it exploded. Security teams that responded to the scene found the badly mutilated bodies sprawled all over there.
Meanwhile, a Somali regional official is calling for an extension of the deadline set for African Union troops to leave Somalia, citing Al-Shabaab attacks and “unstable” political developments. — NNN-ALLAFRICA
