Tehran, May 8, (NNN-IRNA) — Paris wants the nuclear deal with Iran to be preserved, France’s Defense Minister Florence Parly said on Wednesday after Iran scaled down commitments in reaction to US breach of the nuclear deal endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
The remarks were made just minutes after Iran announced it would not be committed to some parts of the deal it signed with the United Nations Security Council’s permanent members—US, UK, France, Russia, China—plus Germany in 2015.
After the US unilateral withdrawal from the deal on the same day one year ago, the European signatories to the deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), pledged to devise mechanisms to keep the deal alive. The promises have not been realiSed yet.
On the first anniversary of the US withdrawal, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani officially announced that Tehran was reducing its commitments in line with the articles of the deal.
‘We, Europeans the European Union was part of the agreement. We, France, want to ensure existence of this deal,’ the minister said, as aired by the BFMTV broadcaster.
‘Nothing could be worse that Iran leaving the agreement,’ she added.
Iranian President emphasized that the decision announced does not mean leaving the deal. Rather it is another phase of the same deal which has been stipulated in Articles 26 and 36.
