S. Korea’s Online Shopping Grew 6.1 Percent In Aug

SEOUL, Oct 5 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s online shopping grew in Aug, due to robust demand for travel, food and e-coupon services, statistical office data showed, today.

Shopping in cyberspace stood at 19.1 trillion won (14.2 billion U.S. dollars) in Aug, up 6.1 percent from the same month last year, according to Statistics Korea.

Online demand for travel and transport services spiked 29.1 percent, and the online transaction of e-coupon services soared 37.0 percent, amid the spread of the trend to offer gifts, such as coffee and cake, through e-coupons.

Transactions of food and beverage in cyberspace gained 5.1 percent, and demand for food delivery services rose 4.4 percent.

Mobile shopping through smartphones increased 5.3 percent over the year to 14.14 trillion won (10.5 billion dollars) in Aug.– NNN-YONHAP
