Jokowi leads in presidential race by 13.5 mln votes

JAKARTA, May 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The vote counting for Indonesia’s presidential election has reached 70 per cent, with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) leading his rival, former general Prabowo Subianto by over 13.5 million votes.

Jokowi who is defending his post with running mate Ma’ruf Amin for the post of vice-president, garnered 61,207,039 votes.

Prabowo and his running mate, businessman/investor-politician Sandiaga Uno, meanwhile, obtained 47,647,252 votes.

Based on the real count or vote count through the official website of the Indonesian General Election Commission, up to noon Wednesday, the vote counting involved 577,855 polling centres out of the total of 813,350.

On April 17, 77.5 per cent of the republic’s 192,828,520 eligible voters, cast their votes in the Indonesian General Election. The vote counting is expected to be completed by this May 22.
