YANGON, Oct 3 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar’s population is estimated at 56.2 million, including 26.8 million males and 29.4 million females, the Ministry of Immigration and Population announced, yesterday.
The 2023 estimated population was released, based on the 2014 Myanmar population and housing census, the ministry said.
Myanmar’s population stood at over 51 million in the 2014 census. According to the figures, the country’s population this year is higher than in 2014, and a pilot census is being conducted for 2024, Director General U Win Zaw Aung, at the Ministry of Immigration and Population, said, yesterday.
Data show Yangon Region is the most populous in Myanmar, with nine million people, followed by Mandalay Region in central Myanmar and Shan State in eastern Myanmar, both with 6.8 million population.
The ministry releases an annual estimated population census every year, to be used as a reference in the making of state policies and projects by the government and departmental organisations.– NNN-MNA
