GENERAL SSANCHEZ CERRO (Moquegua region, Peru), Oct 2 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Ubinas Volcano —located in Peru’s southern Sanchez Cerro province, Moquegua region— spewed ash and gases Sunday afternoon, which are being dispersed by the winds towards the east.
Thus, the ash and gases emitted by the volcano are being carried into the districts of Ubinas, Chojata, and Lloque, as well as into population centers located in that direction.
The event occurred at 4:56 p.m. (local time), and the ash cloud featured a dispersion radius greater than 10 kilometers, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).
The National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) reminds citizens that that ash can cause environmental problems and affect people’s health.
Therefore, the institution recommends protecting the eyes by wearing glasses and facemask to avoid damage to the respiratory tract.
Lastly, it suggests that the competent authorities and institutions carry out a permanent assessment of the impact of ash on water, soil, air, and health. — NNN-ANDINA
