Blast in Pakistan’s Lahore kills 3 and injures 18

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A blast outside the famed Data Darbar shrine in Pakistan’s Lahore city Wednesday has killed three people and injured 18 others.

The Indian Express quoted Lahore police chief Ghazanfar Ali saying that the police officers were the apparent target of bombing outside the shrine.

He said hundreds of pilgrims were inside and outside the shrine when the blast took place.

Police have rushed the injured to a local hospital, while an official from the hospital told local media that the death toll might further rise as four of the injured were in critical condition

Meanwhile the Press Trust of India said Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly denounced the blast outside the Data Darbar, said to be largest Sufi shrine in Asia.

Quoting Radio Pakistan, it said Imran Khan has and sought a report from the authorities on the blast.

Entry to the Data Darbar was sealed in the aftermath of the blast.

The shrine is visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year.

In 2010, the shrine was targeted in a suicide attack that killed more than 40 people, and is guarded by heavy security.
