King of Spain calls political parties for consultations

MADRID, Sept 30 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Without leaving room for speculation, King Felipe VI called on Friday for a new round of consultations with representatives of political parties.

Soon after concluding the failed presidential investiture sessions this week of the leader of the conservative Popular Party (PP) Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, Felipe VI made the call for meetings coming Monday and Tuesday.

In this way, the scene was set for the expected appointment of the acting Head of the Government Pedro Sanchez, as an applicant to form a new administration if he obtains the consent of the General Courts.

In a statement, the Royal House set dates that will lead to another process with a deadline (Nov 27), and if the investiture is not achieved in the Congress of Deputies, it will be essential to call for a new general elections for January 14, 2024.

Unless a complex and rocky stage of negotiations fails, Pedro Sanchez is likely to continue serving as president.

Although socialists and their leftist allies insisted that they will seek quick negotiations, the issue of Catalonia is one of the most difficult obstacles they will face due to the independence desires of two groups, Esquerra Republicana and Junts. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
