HARARE, Sept 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health and Child Care, Douglas Mombeshora, said a new cholera outbreak was reported in Buhera district in Manicaland province of this country, causing 12 deaths out of 152 confirmed cases in the past month.
Speaking at a press conference, he said the government has taken possible measures to prevent the epidemic, including mobilizing the civil protection unit of Buhera district.
Mombeshora stated: “This outbreak has been going on since Aug 26. We have mobilized resources to control the epidemic and support Buhera district to ensure the situation is under control.”
Cholera outbreaks are frequent in Zimbabwe, including in the country’s capital Harare, due to unsanitary conditions.
According to the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care, since February this year, the country has recorded 4,160 suspected cases of cholera, of which 20 confirmed deaths and 94 suspected deaths due to the infection. — NNN-AGENCIES
