PORT-AU-PRINCE, Sept 27 (nnn-agencies) — Haitian authorities said an armed group attacked the University Hospital, one of the country’s largest medical facilities in the central city of Mirebalais, about 10 km from the capital Port-au-Prince on Tuesday night.
Luckily there were no casualties in the incident.

The attackers occupied the outside of the hospital from the night of Sept 26 to the early morning of Sept 27 (local time). The attack caused no casualties, but damaged the neonatal intensive care unit and frightened many patients. Haitian authorities are currently investigating the motive behind this attack.

On Sept 22, a group of armed men also carried out an attack in Saut d’Eau commune, not far from Mirebalais city, killing 11 people, injuring dozens of people and many houses burnt.

Armed gangs have taken control of large areas of Haiti amid public health, political and economic crises occurring in this Western Hemisphere country.

According to the United Nations, more than 2,400 people have died from violence in Haiti since the beginning of the year. — NNN-AGENCIES
