Two Children Killed, Two Injured From Mortar Mine Blast In West Afghanistan

ZARANJ, Afghanistan, Sept 27 (NNN-ANA) – Two children have been confirmed dead, due to the blast of a mortar mine in Dilaram district of west Afghanistan’s Nimroz province yesterday, the district’s governor, Gul Bani Nafiz, said.

The victims were busy collecting garbage, when they found a mortar mine, left over from past wars. The explosion of the device later killed the two children on the spot while injuring two others, the official asserted.

This is the second incident of its kind over the past two days. The explosion of such devices claimed the lives of two shepherds in the northern Faryab province on Monday.

Afghanistan reportedly is one of the most mine-contaminated countries, and the unexploded devices left over from more than four decades of war, claim the lives of over a dozen people, mostly children, each month.– NNN-ANA
