3,000 people participated in the second National Reentry March, demanding that Britain rejoin the EU
LONDON, Sept 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — About 3,000 protesters waving flags of EU countries took part in the National Reunification March in the UK along Park Lane, moving towards Parliament Square demanding to rejoin the EU.

According to The Independent, in Parliament Square, speakers including former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt and senior campaigner Gina Miller gave speeches to the crowd.

Eric Stock, a 23-year-old living in north London, painted head to toe in blue, said: “I think everyone, young and old, can see that Brexit is a disaster. We don’t have much of a democracy anymore. Taking to the streets is one of the few signs of democracy left.”

Ceira Sergeant, a youth leader of the re-entry movement, said that at the time of the 2016 referendum, she was not old enough to vote.

“I have real faith that the UK will rejoin the EU. Over the past year, this movement has grown exponentially. Those in power need to be aware of what young people especially want,” Ceira shared.

This is the second annual march held, although this year’s event started off a bit quieter than last year’s but still attracted thousands of participants.

As previously revealed by The Independent, the Labor Party leader in the UK held secret negotiations with French President Emmanuel Macron about Brexit. Keir Starmer said he would seek to improve the government’s Brexit deal, but also insisted there was no chance of rejoining the EU, single market or customs union.

As the march began, Madeleina Kay (29), who was awarded the 2018 European Youth Prize by the Schwarzkopf Foundation, said the country had taken a “darker turn” after the Brexit referendum year 2016.

“Politicians have let people down and now we can see the consequences of that, which is the cost of living crisis where they have stripped us of our rights. Calling for Britain to rejoin the EU will be a long campaign but young people have voted to stay. This is our future,” Kay emphasized. — NNN-AGENCIES
