LIMA, Sept 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Almost 900,000 senior citizens have already received the bivalent COVID-19 vaccines nationwide, Immunizations Director at the Health Ministry (Minsa) Maria Martinez has reported.

The information was provided during the implementation of a comprehensive health campaign conducted free of charge by Minsa, together with the State-run Pension 65 Program, at Huaycan’s Main Square in Lima’s Ate district.

(Health) Minister Cesar Vasquez has commissioned us to continue bringing health services closer to you to take care of your lives and to protect you from the COVID-19 virus through vaccination,” Martinez remarked.

One of those vaccinated with the bivalent booster was Saturnino Rivero, 90. Like him, other 100 seniors arrived at Huaycan’s Main Square to be immunized against the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus.

During the campaign, aimed at all population groups, mainly the elderly, the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks (DIRIS) in Lima provided COVID-19, regular vaccination, skin cancer screening, colon, HIV, and dengue prevention services, among others.

The activity included the participation of Pension 65 Executive-Director Julio Mendigur, Diris Eastern Lima Director Carlos Leon, and representatives of the Municipality of Ate.

Following the confirmation of four cases of the new COVID-19 variant Fornax in Cusco and Metropolitan Lima, Martinez reported that Minsa is enhancing the vaccination drive in order to have the entire population protected.

The official affirmed that the patients infected with this new variant are stable and did not require hospitalization, but they are still people who did not get all the doses. — NNN-ANDINA
