6.3-Magnitude Earthquake Hit Eastern Indonesia, No Tsunami Alert Issued

JAKARTA, Sept 23 (NNN-ANTARA) – A 6.3-magnitude earthquake jolted off Indonesia’s eastern province of Maluku last night, but did not trigger giant waves, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The earthquake occurred at 21:59 p.m. Jakarta time (1459 GMT), with its epicentre situated at 169 km north-west of Tanimbar Islands Regency, and a depth of 177 km under the seabed, the agency said.

The agency previously recorded the quake at a magnitude of 6.6 but revised its intensity later.

The agency said that, the tremors of the quake did not potentially trigger a tsunami.– NNN-ANTARA
