Cuba praises cooperation with U.S. to fight cancer

HAVANA, Sept 21 (NNN-ACN) — Cuba’s Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal highlighted the cooperation and solidarity that unite Cuban and US scientists for the benefit of human life.

Portal referred to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Cuban Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology and the Massey Cancer Center (MCC) in Virginia, U.S.A., a leading entity in the study and treatment of the disease in that country, which will make it possible for both nations to exchange specialists, information and knowledge, as well as to Cuban and American professionals to share the results of clinical trials.

In the words of MCC director Robert Winn, the agreement opens a new door to understanding and cooperation in the fight against cancer, “as it is a matter of bringing health to everyone regardless of where they live, how they live or how they think”.

Luis Martín, director of the Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology, said that the memorandum paves the way for cooperation in cancer treatment, thoracic surgery, research, and medical science in general. — NNN-ACN
