YANGON, Sept 14 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar welcomed 751,216 international tourists in the first eight months of this year, according to the country’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, yesterday.
Between Jan and Aug this year, 558,199 visitors entered Myanmar via border gates, and 193,017 tourists visited the country via air route, the ministry said.
China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and India were the biggest sources of tourist arrivals in Myanmar, during the eight-month period, the ministry said.
Tourist arrivals in Myanmar have significantly risen in the first eight months of 2023, as compared to 233,487 travellers, who visited Myanmar during the whole of 2022, the ministry’s figures showed.
Myanmar has been taking various measures, including holding its first travel fair in Jan this year, since the outbreak of the pandemic, to promote the pandemic-hit tourism sector.
Before the pandemic, the country received more than 4.36 million tourists in 2019, official figures showed.– NNN-MNA
