US gun violence: 1 student dead, another arrested after shooting at Louisiana high school

The local sheriff has confirmed that one person is dead following the shooting at St. Helena College and Career Academy High School in Greensburg, a city to the northeast of Baton Rouge

GREENSBURG (Louisiana, US), Sept 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A student is dead and another is in custody after a shooting Tuesday at a high school in Louisiana, authorities said.

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office tells news outlets it happened around 3 p.m. at St. Helena College & Career Academy in Greensburg. At least two other students were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.

One injured person was taken to the hospital by helicopter, while another injured victim was taken via ambulance. 

The alleged shooter, who is a 14-year-old juvenile and student at the school, was arrested, Sheriff Nat Williams said. Charges will be released at a later time, he said.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined, authorities said.

The St. Helena Parish School District stated that school will be canceled until Friday, as well as the football game. — NNN-AGENCIES
