Finance Minister starts European tour to promote investment in Peru

MADRID, Sept 13 (NNN-ANDINA) — Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras on Tuesday began, in Spain, a program of activities including his participation in various forums and meetings with the aim of promoting investments and creating closer ties of cooperation with European countries.

“The first meeting in Spain was held today, with employers from the Spain-Peru Council Foundation, an entity that brings together the main Spanish companies with presence in our country, and we have seen strong interest from entrepreneurs to continue investing in Peru, highlighting its macroeconomic strengths and the opportunities it offers,” Contreras said.

The meeting addressed important topics such as technological and digital transformation, the promotion of public-private partnerships (PPP) in 2023 and the expectations for 2024, as well as Government’s predictions to face El Niño phenomenon. Besides, Spanish companies were invited to continue making investments in Peru.

As part of his activities, Contreras, who chairs the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), will participate in the launch of the Economy and Development Report (RED): Global Challenges, Regional Solutions. Latin America and the Caribbean facing the climate and biodiversity crisis.

Likewise, he will speak at the CAF Conference “European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean: a joint agenda for development,” organized by CAF, Casa de las Americas, Spain’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, as well as the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE).

The event will bring together experts and opinion leaders from different sectors, who will reflect on the state of the transatlantic relationship and address future opportunities and challenges in three main areas: green transition, digital transformation, and human development.

CAF’s CLXXIX Board of Directors, chaired by Minister Alex Contreras, will take place in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela on Thursday, September 14. 

There, representatives of the 19 countries that make it up, as well as 13 private banks in the region, will approve credit operations, the annual spending budget, the granting of guarantees or investments, among other operations.

Furthermore, the Peruvian minister will participate in the High-Level Dialogue on the Amazon: An opportunity for collaboration. Moreover, he will attend the First Meeting of EU-CELAC Finance Ministers, which promotes a new intercontinental investment agenda.

The planned official and related activities will allow representatives of public and private entities and institutions from both Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as European countries, to come together. 

This constitutes a great opportunity to share experiences in the economic and financial field, as well as showcase the strengths and opportunities that Peru offers to investors. — NNN-ANDINA
