5.5-Magnitude Quake Hit NW Myanmar

YANGON, Sept 12 (NNN-MNA) – A 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted north-west Myanmar, at about 1:58 a.m. local time, early this morning, the country’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced.

According to the DMH, the epicentre was determined to be about 16 miles (25.7 km) to the north and north-west of Paungbyin town of Sagaing region.

The epicentre, with a depth of 58 km, was initially determined to be at 24.49 degrees north latitude and 94.78 degrees east longitude, the DMH said.

The earthquake was also strongly felt in Homalin town of Sagaing region, a local resident said.– NNN-MNA
