Seven Dead, 10 Injured In Road Accident In South India

NEW DELHI, Sept 12 (NNN-PTI) – At least seven women died and 10 others were injured, in a road accident in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu, yesterday, local police confirmed, over the phone.

The mishap occurred when the victims were sitting by the roadside, after the vehicle they travelled in, broke down, and the vehicle was hit by another one from behind, resulting in their vehicle falling on them, according to the police.

The injured, mainly women, were admitted to a local hospital. All of the victims belonged to the Pernambut town, in Vellore district of the state.

The accident happened in Tirupattur area on the highway, connecting the southern cities of Chennai and Bengaluru, capital of the southern state of Karnataka.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, in a post on the social media platform X, erstwhile Twitter, over the loss of human lives and announced a monetary compensation of 200,000 Indian Rupees (around 2,411 U.S. dollars) for the families of each of the deceased, and 50,000 Indian Rupees (around 603 dollars) for the injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.– NNN-PTI
