Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister to visit Hong Kong

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Sept 12 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamad Alamin will undertake his maiden working visit to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) from Tuesday until Sept 14 to participate in the 8th Belt and Road Summit.

He will be a panelist in the Policy Dialogue II session titled ‘Belt and Road Initiative as a Catalyst for Regional Cooperation and Development’, according to the Foreign Ministry in a statement Tuesday.

Themed “Prospering on a Decade of Collaboration,” the summit gathers regional leaders and senior government officials as well as influential business leaders to promote business collaboration along the Belt and Road Initiative.

Apart from the summit, Mohamad will be meeting Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po to exchange views on the current state of bilateral cooperation and follow up on the implementation of several agreements reached between the leaders during the recent visit by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, to Malaysia in July 2023.

The Deputy Minister will also meet with the Malaysian diaspora in Hong Kong during the visit, the statement read.

The HKSAR has always been one of Malaysia’s top trading partners.

In 2022, the HKSAR was Malaysia’s 9th largest trading partner with total trade valued at RM113.20 billion (US$25.69 billion) – an increase of 20 per cent from 2021.
