Indonesia’s Mount Anak Krakatau Erupted

JAKARTA, Sept 12 (NNN-ANTARA) – Volcanic ashes were thrown as high as one km above the peak of Mount Anak Krakatau, when it erupted yesterday, according to the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.

The eruption occurred at 08:42 a.m. local time and lasted three minutes 28 seconds, with the wind carrying thick gray ashes to the south-west, said Mount Anak Krakatau monitoring post officer, Deny Mardiono.

Located in the Sunda Strait, which separates the islands of Java and Sumatra, the mountain, most of which is under the sea, has been at the third level of danger, since Apr 24, last year.

People are not allowed to move into the five km radius danger zone from the active crater.– NNN-ANTARA
