MOGADISHU, Sept 11 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Somali Army on Sunday killed more than 60 members of the Islamist movement Al Shabaab during actions in the Lower Shabelle region in south Somalia.
The operation, described as a “great victory,” involved troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia that is “cooperating in the fight against terrorism,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, and posted on the X platform, formerly Twitter.
The message states that the actions took place in Awdhegle, in the Lower Shabelle region, and includes territories in southeastern Somalia and northwestern Ethiopia.
Another result of the operation, a part of a renewed official effort against the insurgents, was the capture of weapons and military equipment by the Somali forces, according to the Ministry of Information. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
