Five Arrested For Drug Trafficking In Central Myanmar

YANGON, Sept 5 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar police have arrested five suspected drug traffickers, in Meiktila town of Mandalay Region in central Myanmar, according to a statement from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC), yesterday.

Four of the suspects were arrested at a bus station in Meiktila on Sunday, and police confiscated 46 kilograms of opium worth approximately 66.8 million kyats (about 31,809 U.S. dollars) from them, the CCDAC said.

After interrogating the four suspects, one more suspect, who asked them to transport the narcotic drugs, was also arrested, the CCDAC said.

The suspects were charged under the country’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations were underway, it said.– NNN-MNA
