KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (NNN-Bernama) — Former General Manager of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Datuk Syed Jamil Syed Jaafar died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) early today.
He was 68.
His wife, Datin Haryani Abdul Hamid, when contacted, said Syed Jamil breathed his last at 4 am.
“His remains have been brought to my mother’s house in Sentul and will be taken to Madrasah Tarbiyah in Gombak for bathing and funeral prayer later,” she said.
The remains of Syed Jamil would be laid to rest at the Raudhatul Sakinah cemetery in Gombak after the Zohor prayer.
Syed Jamil began his career in the media as a cadet reporter in Bernama on Dec 16, 1969. He was appointed as the news agency’s Editor-in-Chief in 1995 and as the General Manager on Oct 23, 2000, before he retired in 2007.
He had also served as the adviser for Bernama Systems And Solutions Advisor Sdn Bhd (Bessar), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bernama providing software and integrated systems and solutions to the information technology and broadcasting industry.
