PORT-AU-PRINCE, Aug 26 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Coordinator of the National Union for Integrity and Reconciliation party Clarens Renois, requested Haitian Minister of Justice Emmelie Prophète to resign in view of the police passivity with gangs.

“It is clear that the minister’s instructions to the security forces are not respected,” the politician said and further criticized the crimes and atrocities perpetrated by armed groups while the Police are passive despite their mission to protect and serve.

“I call on Emmelie Prophète to resign from her post to save her honor, her reputation and her career as a writer awarded for her works,” Renois pointed out.

The coordinator denounced that the security forces allegedly do not act to help people harassed by gangs.

In view of this situation, the politician believes that the official should dissociate herself from the government and resign.

Haiti is going through a period of extreme violence with armed gangs controlling large areas of the capital and surrounding cities.

Over 1,500 people have been murdered or kidnapped so far this year, according to a United Nations briefing, which denounced the actions of armed groups in the national territory.

The UN also called for the deployment of international troops to control gangs and regain control of strategic areas. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
