YANGON, Aug 26 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar authorities have seized over 113 tonnes of illegal timber across the country in a week, according to the state media yesterday.
From Aug 14 to Aug 20, the authorities confiscated over 62.39 tonnes of teak, over 4.37 tonnes of hardwood, and over 46.29 tonnes of other types of timber in the country, the newspaper, The Mirror, reported.
During the week, 17 offenders were charged in connection with the cases, along with the seizure of 11 vehicles and machines.
Myanmar’s Forest Department has been cracking down on illegal logging, and trading of forest products, and is committed to implementing tree plantation projects in substitution.– NNN-MNA
