KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Twenty-five tunnels along the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Malaysia’s mega rail project, jointly constructed with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), have achieved a breakthrough, according to Mohd Zuki Ali, chairman of the project owner, Malaysia Rail Link (MRL).
“The breakthrough of 25 tunnels, including 21 in Sections A and B, shows, MRL and CCCECRL’s engineering capabilities and modern tunnelling technology,” Mohd Zuki Ali told a ceremony yesterday.
“The ECRL project, spanning across four states, has progressed 48.77 percent,” he added.
Kong Qi, managing director of CCCECRL, said that, CCCC will make every effort to accelerate the progress of the project.
“Our team is devoted to applying advanced construction technology and experience to the project. In the meantime, we partner with MRL to promote the local community’s economic well-being and forge connections,” Kong said.
The ECRL project involves constructing 40 tunnels from Kelantan to Selangor. The rail link is expected to greatly enhance connectivity and bring more balanced growth to the country by linking its less-developed region on the east coast to the economic heartland on the west coast.– NNN-BERNAMA
