YANGON, Aug 25 (NNN-MNA) – A total of 55 people were killed and 129 others injured, in fire accidents in the first seven months of this year, in Myanmar, the fire services department said, yesterday.
The fire services department said, 1,012 fire outbreaks – 167 in Jan, 193 in Feb, 180 in Mar, 205 in Apr, 130 in May, 67 in Jun and 70 in Jul – occurred during the Jan-Jul period.
The fires also caused damage of over 15.96 billion kyats (over 7.6 million U.S. dollars), and damage to over 2,700 buildings, including houses, factories and storehouses, it said, adding that, there were 9,549 fire victims due to the accidents.
The highest number of fire outbreaks during the cited period occurred in Apr, with 205 cases that killed 16 people and injured 21, the department’s figures showed.
The department said, the largest number of fire outbreaks was caused by electrical faults, followed by negligence and stove fires.
Last year, 96 people were killed and 139 others were injured in 1,507 fire accidents in the country.– NNN-MNA
