UNITED NATIONS, May 4 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The President of the UN General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, believes that the use of force and violence is not the solution to what is happening in Venezuela, stressed her spokeswoman, Monica Grayley.
The high representative also underscored the need for a constructive dialogue between the sides, with the purpose of finding a political and diplomatic solution, highlighted the spokesperson.
Espinosa deems that it is very important that all players try to reduce tensions and increase assistance efforts to the most vulnerable, Grayley said.
Likewise, the Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, insists on the need for dialogue and maintains his offer of good offices to achieve so but the Venezuelan opposition rejects any kind of initiative in that sense.
Last Tuesday the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, denounced an attempted coup with external support, an action that was led by the self-proclaimed Head of State, Juan Guaido, in the vicinity of La Carlota air base in Caracas.
Some 100 members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces led an uprising attempt at dawn on Tuesday alongside the opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez.
Many of the soldiers involved in the incident later showed their regret and said publicly they had been pressured and deceived, according to press reports.
On the other side, Venezuelan Ambassador to the UN, Samuel Moncada, denounced the failed coup attempt and slammed the support given by the United States, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Panama and Paraguay to such violent action.
What happened in Venezuela was basically a media operation to open the doors to a military coup, an intervention and a puppet government because Washington considers my nation as part of its property, the diplomat pointed out.
Therefore, he demanded a UN stronger position, which should not remain impartial when the legitimate Government of a Member State is being attacked, the ambassador stressed.
He also rejected US sanctions and blockades against his country, which leads to collective punishment and the whole people suffer.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump tweeted his support for the attempted coup in Venezuela and asked the military to join that action.
In addition, the US authorities reiterate that all options are on the table, including a military intervention.
