Iran Says Interference, Orchestrating Coups, “Recurring Element” In U.S., British Policies

TEHRAN, Aug 20 (NNN-IRNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, said yesterday that, a “recurring element” in U.S. and British foreign policies is intervention, including orchestrating regime change in other countries.

Nasser Kanaani made the remarks in a post on X, previously known as Twitter, to mark the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-British orchestrated military coup in Iran in 1953, that toppled then-democratically-elected Iranian prime minister, Mohammad Mosaddegh, and reinstated the monarchist dictatorship under the country’s king Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was overthrown years later in 1979, following the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Kanaani said, 70 years ago, a national government in Iran was overthrown in a coup, supported by the United States and Britain.

“Backing dictators, interfering in other countries’ internal affairs, suppressing freedom-seeking movements and organising coups are among the recurring elements in the policies of the United States and Britain,” he added.– NNN-IRNA
