Mongolia Holds Nomadic Cultural Festival To Promote Tourism

ULAN BATOR, Aug 19 (NNN-XINHUA) – A cultural festival, to promote Mongolia’s nomadic intangible culture and the development of the tourism sector kicked off here yesterday.

According to the country’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the three-day festival, held in the Nalaikh District of Ulan Bator, aims to honour and celebrate the legacy of nomadic culture and attract more domestic and foreign tourists.

More than 1,000 bearers of intangible cultural heritage and nomadic individuals, from all 21 provinces of Mongolia are participating in the festival titled “Nomads.”

Various activities, include folk music and dance concerts, a photo exhibition, featuring the nomadic lifestyle and beautiful landscape of the country, and a fair of traditional handicrafts.

The government has taken several measures to revive the pandemic-hit tourism sector.

The country has designated 2023-2025 as “Years to Visit Mongolia,” and the nomadic cultural festival is one of more than 90 events this year, to promote tourism.

Developing tourism is seen as the most viable way for Mongolia to diversify away from its export-oriented mining economy.– NNN-XINHUA
